  • In 2000, the sexual assault victimization rate for youth ages 12-17 was 2.3 times higher than the rate for adults.
  • In 1999, 70% of forcible sex offenses and 97% of non-forcible sex offenses occurred against people ages 0 - 17.
  • Most sexual abuse is committed by people who know the child - acquaintances most often, followed by family members, then strangers.
